This guest house in San Antonio, 40 x 8 is designed by Poteet Architects were awarded the Design Award 2010 in the edition of AIA San Antonio by the project. This is a proof that any small space, regardless of origin, can be transformed into a very functional and stylish home. The secret is in the planning and details.
The emphasis was on sustainable strategies, firstly, recycling container for a new permanent use. The roof has a garden of plants on top of the container, providing shade and air flow to reduce heat.
The waste water from the sink and shower are captured to irrigate plants cover. The toilet is a composting toilet. The back of the container is provided with wire mesh panels that will eventually be covered in evergreen vines to enhance the exterior insulation.
The container "floats" on a foundation of recycled telephone poles. The cover consists of HVAC equipment 40 x 8 (made from recycled soda bottles), set in a steel frame. Outdoor lighting 40 x 8 displays are the leaves of a disc plow tractor.
